Memory 7 (won Day 27, taken Day ##)
Neutral-Neutral: Chilling in the chemistry lab with Nanaki / accosted by Anghel / accosted by Sakuya (5)
Details: Won in the Duchess's feelings bingo game.
The screencaps for the playthrough I've been using for this write-up are down but fortunately all the dialogue was in text form. I'm reconstructing who said what by memory and context; I don't feel like rebooting my laptop so I can play the game again... I don't even know if I have a save available for this section. I will double-check everything later.
The memory opens with Shuu and a white button quail chilling in a chemistry lab with, again, the dismembered-and-then-reconstructed corpse of a human teenage girl. The air between them is silent and uncomfortable, broken only by the occasional passive-aggressive sniping. Sometimes the button quail seems about to fall asleep, but for some reason never quite makes it, which is irritating.
The silence-with-occasional-snarking is broken by the appearance of a Luzon Bleeding-heart wrapped in slightly bloody bandages!
SUDDEN LUZON BLEEDING-HEART
"The Hour of Judgement has come!
You cannot use the Dark Tree's power here. Return to the Void, Wallenstein!"
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL (?)
"Well, he seems excited.
I wonder what the Doctor is doing?"
SHUU
"...being slandered by Mister Higure, as you can see."
"Please stop breaking school property, Mister Higure."

"I have returned from Judecca to defeat you!
As long as you live, Calamitous Sorceror, the world will be wrapped in Eternal Despair!"
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL
"When he says things with such conviction, I almost find myself believing them..."

"Yes, yes. Come on, Higure. Let's go back to the gym, okay?"
HIGURE
"No! Stop! Do not throw me out like some wretched doll!"
["Higure" is taken away by the white button quail, who soon returns.]
SHUU
"I suspect he has suffered from megalomania since birth."
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL
"Megalomania? Whatever do you mean?"
SHUU
"Delusions of grandeur.
Eschewing societal standards, he lives his life in the midst of some bizarre fantasy.
Perhaps it is genetic."
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL
"There would be no helping it then, would there?"
SHUU
"He is unusually active in the destruction of his surroundings, especially given his physique."
"Internal prejudice is a terrible thing, I suppose.
He is no doubt exerting to the limits of his capacity at all times."
"The most dangerous part is his ability to bring his surroundings into his fantasy.
Though, I seem to be less affected than you."
"...and since, although I invited him to the school, I have yet to find a use for him, the whole thing has been nothing but a waste of time."
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL
"Did you say something just now, Doctor?"
SHUU
"Nothing, nothing at all."
[Some time passes, and then Sakuya appears.]
SAKUYA
"Excuse me."
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL
"Oh, hello, Shirogane.
What's going on? Where did Kawara go?"
SAKUYA
"He is investigating another area at this moment."
"Isn't Sakazaki here?"
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL (?)
"I think he's out walking around to calm his nerves again.
He's very brave, to be out and about with that scarecrow on the loose."
SAKUYA
"Not brave, just imprudent."
"Doctor Iwamine, I came here to ask your opinion on something."
SHUU
"My opinion?
I feel I will not be of much use to you there."
"Where is Mister Kawara?
Did you have a falling out?"
"He did seem to be suspecting me based on nothing but his own prejudice... a pity."
SAKUYA
"I agree, sir.
To doubt someone based on one's own preconceptions is... balivernes, sir. It is nonsense."
"You are renowned as one of the most intelligent birds in the world, Doctor.
I do not think that you could be involved in such a grisly crime as this."
SHUU
"It is an honor to be so praised by the heir to the Le Bel family."
SAKUYA
"I hold a deep respect for you, Doctor."
"You might not be aware, but my father owes his life to your medicine.
A few years ago... your work allowed the Le Bel family to continue on to even greater glory."
SHUU
"Is that so? I had not known.
I am afraid that I know little of the fates of the drugs that I develop."
SAKUYA
"The life of but one bird may not be significant to you, but we of the Le Bel family will never forget."
SHUU
"Hohoho, how wonderful.
I take it your father is a figure of great respect?"
SAKUYA
"Of course.
The family head must always be honored."
SHUU
"It would seem that you hold your own biases even more dearly than Mister Kawara holds his, almost like the foundation of your very existence."
SAKUYA
"..."
SHUU
"...I would rather like to see the expression on your face when that foundation collapses. Hohoho."
[Time passes, Sakuya rallies and the conversation continues.]
SAKUYA
"...so you think it would take a fair amount of time to cut a human up like this and distribute them in boxes, Doctor?"
SHUU
"Correct.
Even if she were cut up last night and distributed this morning, it would involve a good deal of physical labor."
RYOUTA (?)
"Sakuya?"
SAKUYA (?)
"...you again."
RYOUTA (?)
"Can we go to the maintenance room? We need to talk."
SAKUYA (?)
"Very well."
SHUU
"...Mister Shirogane."
SAKUYA
"Yes, Doctor?"
SHUU
"Just as an aside... it would be impossible as one such as myself."
SAKUYA
"Even with the knowledge and tools of a physician?"
SHUU
"Even so. I am not a particularly healthy person."
SAKUYA
"Not a healthy person...?"
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL
"The Doctor is slightly impaired down his right side, you know."
SAKUYA
"He is...?
I never knew."
SHUU
"I was injured, long ago.
My right wing never fully recovered, though it rarely poses problems in daily life."
"A human corpse is heavy.
It seems like a bit much to go dragging around with one wing, don't you think?"
WHITE BUTTON QUAIL
"Yes, it's all true.
It's even recorded in the faculty medical records."
SAKUYA
"It is? I see... thanks, I'll remember that."
[Sakuya and Ryouta leave, leaving Shuu alone with the white button quail again.]
Results:
- New birds: "Higure", the Luzon Bleeding-heart (USELESS FOR EXPERIMENTS >8( DANG IT) and the white button quail (fellow faculty member, narcoleptic, annoying)
- Old birds: Sakuya Le Bel Shirogane, Kawara Ryouta, Sakazaki Yuuya. For my own reference, he is not aware that Ryuuji's surname is also Kawara yet. :')
- He was suspected of chopping up that teenage girl? Chopping her up and...distributing her body around the school in boxes? ...How delightfully morbird.
- He invited students to the school. Unusual ones. Ones that he thought he could use somehow... Use in research?
- Also researched drugs, presumably cures for diseases, as well as means of killing.
- Sakuya's conviction that he could ~do no wrong~ due to being a respected doctor is hilarious. 8')
- His right wing/side is weak due to some traumatic injury in his past, now he is going to be bothered by having this confirmed. 8|b
